There are a whopping great fist of reasons to buy your gear for next year in the ski and snowboard end of season sales – in fact, for many of us, it’s the principle reason we have a ‘gear problem’.
As we head home to the UK to ready ourselves for the 2019/20 ski season, we have come to the conclusion that despite our best efforts to live a minimalist lifestyle, this simply gets jettisoned out the window when it comes to ski gear.
We have a pathetic way of justifying it to ourselves – we’re trying new winter sports or disciplines (which is true); we’re going away for an entire season so it’s likely that this stuff just won’t last (rarely true because we have nice kit); and the piece de resistance…. “it’s important that we get this stuff so we can test it for Winterized”. Told you – utterly pathetic.
Ordinarily, this wouldn’t really matter – most people can hide from their ski gear fetish in the summer months by lobbing it all in the loft with the hope it won’t get scoffed by mice. We however have the minor inconvenience of living on the road most of the time so we experience our kit-shame on a daily basis!
This summer is different – we’re staying put whilst we take on an epic project in preparation for next season. Those of you keen to upgrade your mototrhome’s winterising or fancy building a van from scratch plug your deets into the space on the right marker ‘get our blog’ and you’ll get an email nudge that we’ve got new vlogs and blogs out.
In the meantime – SALES!!!!
We’ve been doing a bit of research and here’s our top 5 of the best ski, snowboard and winter sports sales on in the UK right now – click through to see what they’ve got on offer but perhaps put your credit card in the freezer first.
A total revelation in recent years, Decathlon nails it season after season in all sporting sectors in our eyes. They are so savvy in their research and development you should never be surprised just how good their gear is. Base layers are where it’s at right now in the Decathlon ski sale so do yourself a favour and bin the crotchless long-johns you’ve been sporting for the last 10 seasons!

Helmets and goggles are the ‘shoes and handbags’ of the Winterized van. We collect them – there is no light or weather condition that has ever been, or ever will be, that we are not equipped for. Utterly ludicrous, but a somewhat cheaper habit than collecting skis. Snow + Rock have a monster sale on ski helmets and goggles and if it’s about time you switched your lid, do it now. Helmets are one of the things that degrade faster than you’d imagine and whose technology advances faster than any other area of ski equipment at the moment. Check out the hundreds on sale here and try not to get paralysed by the options!

There is a LOT of very nice stuff with hefty discounts on at Cotswold Outdoor right now. The North Face, Arc’teyrx, Eider and Salomon to name a few of the names we trust for premium kit. Up to 70% off so this is not to be sniffed at!

Does anyone else find it really irritating that all the best ski stuff is designed for kids? The range of romper-suits available is mind bending and the helmets! Soooo much cooler that the adult equivalent. Further evidence that being a grown up is just a massive conspiracy. Don’t grow up, it’s a trap.
So to lift your spirits we’ve found a whole heap of very snazzy kids kit in the Snowboard Asylum sale – or ‘ultra-small’ as we prefer for all you ‘petites’ out there. Alternatively you will just have to take any joy you can out of kitting out the smalls in your life.

With nearly £100 off one of our favourite women’s skis from this season (Head Pure Joy), if you’re in the market for new skis and boots or any hard wear, you should take a look at the end of season sales at Ellis Brigham. But specifically for those of you tempted by a bit of Backcountry skiing in the 2019/20 season, there is a lot of awesome kit on sale from snow shovels and transceivers to skins and boots. If you don’t really know what backcountry skiing is or you want to know how to get into it – we went on a ‘Discover Backcountry skiing’ session at Tamworth – read about that here.
